Reimaging the Family Proposal

Reimagining the Family Photo
For this project I recreated an old family photo of my cousin and me. When recreating this image my roommate posed as my cousin. Sourcing the clothing for this project was difficult because I did not have anything that closely resembled the clothing from the original image. The plaid top that I am wearing is my roommate’s skirt. Since I was not wearing a real “top”, I wore a black tank top underneath to represent straps my top’s “straps”. The top that my roommate is wearing is a baby pink dress. When editing, I manipulated the colors of her dress with a masking tool to make the dress appear more red. To shoot this image I used a tripod and the timer on my camera settings. The original photo was taken on a disposable film camera. When re-shooting this image, I used flash to bring out the natural highlights in the faces. I made sure that my roommate’s head and my head were placed in the correct position as modeled in the photo. When recreating this image, I wanted to make sure I could emulate the same filter in editing. I really concentrated on the exposer, highlights, contrast, grain, and warmth. I utilized the masking tool to in some areas to make the corners of the image darker. In editing, I tried my best to crop the image the same way to match the photo. If I were to reshoot this photo, I would get a longer tripod to get more empty space in the background.
